Mission

AMPP’s Government Affairs and Advocacy department is integral to the organization's mission to promote the materials protection and performance industry. We develop federal and state legislative, regulatory, and grassroots strategies that help ensure that AMPP is seen as the industry's leading voice.

The Government Affairs Department moves the organization’s mission forward through:

  • Meets directly with lawmakers at all levels of government.
  • Coordinates essential events such as AMPP Advocacy Day in Washington, DC
  • Submits information and testimony to key offices and committees in the House, Senate, and administrative agencies.
  • Leads grassroots efforts to increase awareness of the industry and build support throughout every level of government.
  • Supports the Congressional Coatings and Corrosion Prevention Caucus in Congress to advance its mission further.

Initiatives

AMPP continues to work on pushing important initiatives forward through Congress. These are the current issues we are working with Congress on:
  • Bridge Corrosion Prevention and Repair Act: The legislation would also build on a recommendation from the National Transportation Safety Board and direct the Department of Transportation to study and generate best practices for inspecting and addressing corrosion on bridges made of weathering steel. This bill has passed in the House over several Congresses, with bipartisan support.
  • Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act: This legislation provides valuable tax-advantaged resources for workers who pursue alternative career pathways, mid-career changes, or career growth by boosting their career prospects and earning potential at any phase of their careers and educational backgrounds.
